Although I had known about the community garden Orti Dipinti ever since it's opening a couple of years ago, for some strange reason I had never actually seen it. Until last week when I happened to drive through Borgo Pinti on my bike. There it was. And I knew it was time to stop and have a look. (Fortunately I had my camera with me).
As soon as I entered the garden I was in love. What a place. A little oasis within the city. Completely peaceful and all green... the perfect place for kids (and grown ups) to go and get some dirt under their nails.
The garden has been built on an old abandoned track lane. In its own words Orti Dipinti is a space for people to learn about "nutrition awareness, research, and personal growth, culture and integration". Focus is on sustainable urban development through modern horticulture and a better awareness of the environment.
The garden also organizes classes and workshops as well as markets and events for kids. However, I suggest you check out the website of Orti Dipinti in order to read more about their activities and how to become a member, because this is really a place which everyone in Florence should know about. I know I'll be coming back for sure.
