As I may have mentioned before I always stay at my mum's place in Søborg when I'm in Copenhagen. It's located right after Nordvest (North West Copenhagen) and it's a place which seems to get better and better every time I come home. Every year new cool places pop up on the main street Søborg Hovedgade and this time was no exception.
Ismageriet is - as far as I have understood - one of the best ice cream places in Copenhagen right now, and just two weeks before arriving in Copenhagen they opened the doors to their second shop. This time in Søborg.
Although their first shop (which is located in Amager) has been around since 2005 I had never tried their ice cream before, but with the new place just around the corner I obviously had to.
According to their website Ismageriet makes gelato-inspired ice cream adapted to the taste of the Danes. And I believe that is a pretty good description. The quality of the ice cream is indeed very close to what I am used to in Florence, and I loved the fact that I could get typical Danish ice cream flavors such as nougat and skildpadde (In English: "Turtle" inspired by this famous Danish chocolate) + you can get the traditional Danish toppings like whipped cream, guf and jam.
Søborg is not an area where you see a lot of people in the streets after dinner time, but with the opening of Ismageriet people drive here from far away to get their ice cream, and it gives Søborg a certain city vibe, which I believe is super positive.
The shop opens at 11 am and closes at 22 pm. I never once saw the shop without customers. And to think it rained most of the time we were home!
