Where to shop in Copenhagen # 2

Welcome to part two of my Copenhagen mini shopping guide. You can read part one HERE >>.

Shopping in Copenhagen is amazing. We have lots of little independent shops but also some pretty amazing department stores. Copenhagen is one of the best cities in terms of design, and personally I also believe that the Danish fashion brands are among the best in the world.

I have collected the best of my old Copenhagen shopping posts in two mini guides. I hope you will enjoy them - and feel free to write your own favorite shops in the comments field.

Stilleben - if you only have to visit one shop in Copenhagen make it this one

Together with Nørgaard på Strøget (see part one of my Copenhagen shopping series) this is probably my absolute favorite shop in Copenhagen.

I ALWAYS have to pop in at least once when I'm in Copenhagen. I may not buy anything, I just love to walk around among the crazy perfect selection of items which are being sold in here. This store is simply inspirational.

Stilleben is located in Niels Hemmingsensgade. Behind it are two Danish women Ditte Reckweg and Jelena Schou Nordentoft, who have the most excellent taste when it comes to design.

Stilleben sells designer bags (Yvonne Koné, Mismo, Aiayu just to mention a few) and cool jewelry, beautiful ceramics, art prints, the goregous wooden frames by Moebe, textiles and stationery. This is also where you can get your copy of the latest Kinfolk magazine (whose Danish office is located just a few meters from the shop).

Normann Copenhagen - new Danish interior design

I never get tired of Normann. This gigantic concept store is so so cool.

Not only does the shop sell the best of the best in terms of furniture and interior design, they also have some very cool stationary which you probably can't live without once you see it.

The place is gigantic; a huge wide open room which used to be a cinema and a basement downstairs. Be careful. It's hard not to shop like a madman in here.

Moshi Moshi Mind - the place to go for gorgeous and very soft homewear

Moshi Moshi Mind is a gorgeous shop located in Østerbro and on Gl. Kongevej in Vesterbro (+ a few other places around the country).

The girls behind Moshi Moshi have managed to create a perfect universe filled with all the best within comfortable homewear, soft cachmere socks and sweaters, wellness products, beauty products, yoga accessories and much more.

If you are not going to Copenhagen right away, you can have a little preview on Moshi Moshi Mind's website where you can do some shopping in the webshop. Be careful... there are so many fantastic things to buy...

Sømods Bolcher - homemade candies and sweets

Danes are crazy about candy and that goes for all ages, not just kids. We love to fill little plastic bags with candy when going to the cinema or we bring it home in front of the TV on Saturday night.

If you want to try some really good high quality candy you must visit Sømods Bolcher which is located in the back of a courtyard in Nørregade. In here you can visit the old factory, which is more than 120 years old.

When you enter the little shop on the first floor, you are met by the sweetest smell. In the back you can watch as the sweets are being made, and in the front of the room you have the store, where you can buy all the sweets you want, and even try a few tastings.

There are about 75 kinds of sweets in all kinds of colours, sizes and tastes. Personally I am crazy about the gigantic multicoloured "Silkeorme" (Silk worms), but you should also try the classic "Dameskrå" which tastes of liquorice, or the yellow banana sweets.

Hay House - Danish interiors and stationary - with a view

If you follow some Copenhagen based Instagram accounts they may have already "taken you" to the Hay store in Copenhagen. The space is located on two floors in a building overlooking Amagertorv and the view from here is particularly famous on Instagram.

For Instagramers this may be a good reason to visit the store but there are definitely several others. Hay is a Danish furniture company specialized in beautiful wooden pieces and lots of colorful textiles. The brand also sells a gorgeous line of stationary, so if you can't afford the furniture you can always buy something for your home office. I love this place!

Magasin - the classic Copenhagen department store

Copenhagen offers two major department stores and one of them is Magasin.

What I love about Magasin is that you can literally find everything you need within fashion, interior design, gastronomy, cafes and more. And yet the place isn't too big and overwhelming. You can easily check out all floors without getting tired (or lost!)

I especially like the interior department, but Magasin is also a great place to shop for bags and fashion in general, and if you are looking for kids fashion you can find all the great Scandinavian brands at Magasin.

Illum - down to earth luxury department store

Our second department store is Illum. Illum has a lot of the same things as Magasin but on top that it is also the home to high end fashion brands such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent, and also the Italian food mecca Eataly which has recently opened.

Illum also has several cafes but I would suggest you take your coffee or lunch outside the department store, since some of the best cafes of Copenhagen are located just outside the door.

Illums Bolighus - interiors deparment store

Illums Bolighus is probably one of the best places in Copenhagen, when you want Danish (and international) interior design.

Despite the name Illums Bolighus is not connected to the department store Illums. It was in the beginning, but now it has become "independent".

At Illums Bolighus you find several floors filled with beautiful and functional Danish interior design. In here you can shop literally everything for your home. Furniture, kitchen accessories, lamps, toys for children, ceramics, vases and so much more.

At Illums Bolighus you also find a great section filled with the best Danish jewelry designers (and there are a lot of them!) such as Arena and Line & Jo.
